Lipeng Chen is an active classical orchestral, solo, and chamber violinist who has been performing around the world since beginning her professional music career with the Chongqing Symphony Orchestra in 1998. She has performed as Civic Orchestra of Chicago Associate Concertmaster with many world-famous artists, including the eminent maestro Riccardo Muti and legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma. She currently plays with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and is invited to perform with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Rockford Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago Arts Orchestra among other regional, national, and international orchestras.
Classically trained at a very young age, Lipeng performed extensively throughout mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Tokyo, and Taiwan before moving to the United States and taking up residence in Chicago. In mainland China, she performed with the Chongqing Symphony Orchestra, Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, and Portugal Lisbon Symphony Orchestra. In Hong Kong, she performed with the Asian Youth Orchestra, London Baroque Chamber Orchestra, HK City Chamber Orchestra and HK Philharmonic Orchestra.
Since moving to the US, Lipeng has performed in many orchestras across the country, including Illinois, New York city, Washington state, North Carolina, and Indiana. Here in Chicago, she was an associate concertmaster and has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago—conducted by renowned maestro Cliff Colnot—and many other famous musicians, including Yo-Yo Ma, Riccardo Muti, Michael Tilson Thomas, Gil Shaham, and Jaap Van Zweden. In addition to the ISO and CAO, Lipeng has performed with many other American orchestras, such as the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Music Festival Faculty Orchestra, Muncie Symphony Orchestra, and more.
An accomplished chamber musician, Lipeng has performed with many string quartets and other classical ensembles throughout her career of over 16 years. Following in the footsteps of Yo-Yo Ma’s Citizen Musician initiative, Lipeng is a strong believer and advocate of community enrichment through classical music. She has many years of experience in community engagement, having served as string ensemble leader for the MusiCorps Music Education and Advocacy Program under the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and having brought classical music to many Indiana and North Carolina communities through the educational outreach programs of the Muncie Symphony Orchestra and the Eastern Music Festival Faculty Orchestra.
Lipeng Chen is an active classical violinist eager to meet and perform with other artists in the greater Chicago metropolitan area, elsewhere in the US, and China. She is available for orchestral, soloist, and chamber ensemble performances, charity and fundraising events, live business and personal events, recording sessions, and more.
